The last great temple of the Chola dynasty, the Kampahareshvara Temple, lies in Tribhuvanam, 6 km northeast of Thanjavur. Kulotunga III (1178-1218) built this, faithfully following the Thanjavur temple style. With its Vimana, which soars vertically to the height of 32m, it was the last example where the main shrine was made greater than Gopuras (temple gates). However, the walls of its Vimana, filled with sacred statues and architectural motifs, were almost no different from the wall-composition of the later large Gopuras, and those sculpturesf vigor was in decline. (I wonder why this temple was not included in the group of the eGreat Chola Templesf for the UNESCO World Heritage List.)
